Yet SF remains the beating heart of America’s progressive movement as well as a major epicenter of the techo-economy, and it’s a genuinely beautiful, historic city.

Many folks might overlook the potential of Oakland, given the city’s less than stellar crime rate and the Raiders’ less-than-perfect performance over the last few seasons. However, Oakland actually ranked #84 in the Livability.com survey. It’s a surprisingly cool and family-friendly city, with a diverse selection of parks, museums, trendy restaurants, and community activities.
